Wellness, Waves & the Wisdom of the Wild.

Gave myself a pep talk in the car. Told myself I am beautiful for some mood support. It didn’t work this time. But hey, A for effort.

I’m always trying to be in a better mood — let’s face it, I get cranky, okay? 🙃

Recently, I’ve found myself tumbling down life’s hill — a little like getting caught in the washing machine of a wave while surfing, or pedaling a beach cruiser uphill without the electric motor. In other words: rough.

Bruises, breathless nights, and more cold showers than I’d like to count (not by choice — more like survival). Has anyone else been in the trenches lately?

I’ve had my ups and downs across my 37 years on this Earth, but this one’s been different. A perfect storm of hard:

  • Living back home with my parents
  • Part-time work, and struggling to find more
  • Heartbreak
  • Florida heat that flares up my autoimmune disease like fire the moment I step off a plane

Yep, it’s been a lot. Dramatic? Maybe. But real? Absolutely.

So real, in fact, that I had a suicidal moment. It scared me — deeply. I made an appointment with a psychiatrist, and while I didn’t enjoy it, I did get something valuable from it: a reminder to explore natural mood support — and to remember my own herbal medicine background.

Sometimes we forget the superpowers we hold. The wisdom we’ve shared with others. The care we’ve offered to everyone but ourselves. And it hit me: how can I keep pouring from an empty cup?

It’s our birthright to feel good. To care for ourselves. To live in balance and wellness — body, mind, and spirit. Would you agree?

Herbs That Helped Me Feel Better

The herbs that called to me first were tulsi (holy basil), lemon balm, and rose. I started adding them to my yerba maté tea using an infuser, and wow — I felt the shift almost immediately. I even tossed in a bit of hibiscus for the color, taste, smell, and vitamin C boost.

Honestly, I believe it’s what God wants for us — to heal naturally and live well. (That’s a whole post for another time, about how He’s carried me through everything. But for now: herbs.)

So I sat down. I prayed. I meditated. I asked for guidance on the perfect blend to support emotional healing — for myself and for anyone else going through depression, anxiety, or heavy sadness.

Here are the herbs I chose for my mood-supporting tea and tincture:

🌿 My Mood-Lifting Herbal Blend:

  • Hawthorn Berry – Dear to my heart, literally and emotionally.
  • Tulsi (Holy Basil) – A warm hug in a cup. This adaptogenic herb lifts the spirit and supports whole-body wellness.
  • Rose – Softens the heart and helps us open up gently to healing.
  • Oat Tops – A nervine that nourishes the nervous system. Think of it as food for your emotional body.
  • Lemon Balm – Calming and uplifting. My go-to for anxious nights and daily mood support.
  • Passionflower – Helps calm the mind and heart, especially when racing thoughts won’t let up.
  • Mimosa Bark & Flower – Known as the Tree of Happiness, this herb has long been used to ease sadness and restore inner light.

🌸 How to Use This Blend: Tea + Tincture

✨ To make a tea:

  • Combine the dried herbs in equal parts (or intuitively — trust your gut).
  • Steep 1–2 teaspoons in hot water for 10–15 minutes.
  • Strain and enjoy with a drizzle of honey if you’d like.
  • Sip slowly and with intention.

✨ To make a tincture:

  • Combine the herbs with your menstruum (alcohol, vinegar, or glycerin) in a 1:2 ratio (1 part dried herb to 2 parts liquid).
  • Store in a glass jar and let sit for 6 weeks, shaking daily.
  • After 6 weeks, strain, dilute with spring water as needed, and take up to 3 times daily.
  • I add mine to tea, smoothies, water, or take it straight under the tongue. It’s been helping me move forward with more clarity and peace.

⚠️ Important note:

This is not medical advice. Always check with your doctor before starting herbs, especially if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or on medications or supplements (including other herbs).
